The OPAY ATM card is a Verve-issued physical debit card offered to customers upon request. The debit card allows account holders—be it businesses or individuals—to withdraw the cash available in their balance from any ATM and POS terminals nationwide.
The debit card can be requested on the OPAY app for N1,875.00, with the discount applied at the time this article was published. If the discount is not applied, however, it will cost around N2,000. OPAY also clarified on the card management dashboard that the charge is not a card issuance fee but a delivery fee.
This delivery fee is also influenced by location. The price a customer in Lagos will be charged to request the debit card from OPAY will be different from the amount it'll cost a customer in Kano.
However, instead of getting the OPAY debit card directly from the app for approximately N2,000, you can simply locate a card sale agent near you to get the card from them. The OPAY card sale agent will sell the debit card to you, link it to your OPAY account, and activate it for you for just N1,000.
But that's another case for another time. Let's get focused on the primary reasons for this article. At the end of this article, you should understand how the OPAY works, how to get your own card, how much it costs, how to track the card and its transactions, and how to use and manage the debit all from your OPAY app.
Details about OPAY Debit Card
The OPAY Debit Card is the physical (ATM) debit card linked to your wallet balance, allowing you to easily make payments at ATMs, POS terminals, and online stores across Nigeria. Yes, the OPAY ATM card can also be used for online transactions, like the Virtual Debit Card.
The advantage of the OPAY physical card over its virtual card is that the virtual debit card cannot be used at ATMs or POS systems. Meanwhile, the physical debit card possesses all the features of the virtual debit card. In other words, an OPAY ATM card can work everywhere the virtual card can work and beyond.
Furthermore, it is also important to let you know that both debit cards—physical and virtual—are linked directly to your OPAY wallet, allowing it to charge your balance anytime you use them for online purchases, POS transactions, or ATM withdrawals.
The cards are backed by Verve, Africa's largest domestic payment card scheme and fintech brand. The payment switch company is owned by the Interswitch Group. Another thing you need to know is that OPay does not charge ongoing maintenance fees for using the card, and cardholders usually enjoy up to 10 free ATM withdrawals every month.
The Debit Card Limits
The OPAY debit card limits are determined by your account tier. If you're in tier 3, you will get up to ₦5,000,000.00 daily transaction limits on your card. But until you increase the limit in the app, it'll be capped at ₦250,000.00 per day.
To increase the card limit, log in to your OPAY app, click on the “Card” tab, and select the card you want to increase the limit for. Next, click on “Manage” and select “Set Transaction Limits”. You will then have to adjust the slider on the page to set your preferred limit.
However, as part of CBN's cashless policy and anti-fraud measures that were recently mandated, you can only withdraw a maximum of ₦100,000 daily through POS and ATM terminals. The apex bank also capped the cumulative weekly withdrawal limit across channels at ₦500,000 for individuals.
OPAY Debit Card Requirements
The criteria you must meet to be able to qualify for debit card features on the OPAY are upgrading your account to tier 2 or tier 3. If your account is still in tier 1, make sure you use your Bank Verification Number (BVN), National Identity Number (NIN), and proof of address to fully verify your KYC.
In addition to that, you must have the cost amount in your balance. The fee will be charged immediately after you complete your order. Lastly, you must set your delivery address and drop two active phone numbers so that the delivery person can get in touch with you.

You will see the list of all online merchants you've used the card to subscribe to. You will see the active and inactive subscriptions, and you can instantly block them from charging the card.
- Lock via USSD: If you misplace your card or phone, you can instantly block your ATM card by dialling *955*132#. If you dial the OPAY USSD shortcode on any phone and follow the prompts to enter your account details, your entire OPay account, including all linked debit card, will be temporarily blocked.
- In-App Freeze: Navigate to the Cards section and toggle the switch to freeze or unfreeze the card.
- View CVV: You can view your card's CVV in the app by going to Card > Details and entering your payment PIN.

- The card can also be linked to your Google Play and Apple App Store accounts to make in-app purchases, like game points and TikTok coins.
- In a nutshell, the OPAY Debit Card can be used like a standard bank credit/debit card.
How to Track OPAY Debit Card
Tracking the OPAY debit card is another case entirely because, if your definition of “tracking” is tracing who uses your card without your consent, then you will need to contact OPAY support to get to the root of the issue.
If you contact the support team, they will provide you with the location where your ATM card is being used to withdraw your money, whether through an ATM terminal or a POS terminal. If it is through a POS terminal, the agent’s name and location will be revealed.
This is one of the reasons the CBN mandated geo-tagging and transaction traceability for POS operators and electronic payment channels. If the card is used through a bank’s ATM, the bank’s name and the ATM location will also be revealed.
However, if you are simply looking to view your card transaction history, you can easily do that in the OPAY app under the “Transaction History” dashboard. This is the same section you normally use to manage and monitor your inflow and outflow transactions.
