OPAY Debit Cards: How to Start Selling and Activate Them for Customers

Card sale agent are only allowed to activate OPAY debit cards for customers. This article explains the processes from A to Z.
OPAY Debit Card

You must first be approved for “Card Sale Agent” before you can activate OPAY cards for customers. Becoming an OPAY Card Sale agent requires you to have a business account or have an OPAY POS machine, as debit card activation for customers cannot be carried out using OPAY personal accounts.

Therefore, you need to become an OPAY Card sale agent using the business app or POS terminal. To start selling cards for OPAY, you will first need to register a business account if you don't already have. And if you're already a business manager on OPAY, then skip this part.

Requirements

To activate OPAY card for a customer, here are the criteria you must meet:

  1. You must have an OPAY business account.
  2. You must be a card sales agent on the OPAY business app.
  3. You must have requested for bulk of cards to sale at your disposal.
  4. The users you're linking and activating card for must be in tier 2/3 KYC level.
  5. OPAY business app is also required.

How to Start Selling OPAY Cards

If you want to start selling OPAY Cards, you must first become a card sales agent and you must have an OPAY business account. You can register a business account by downloading the OPAY business app on the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Once you've registered the business account and you've completed the necessary KYC verification to activate the feature, then follow these steps to start selling OPAY cards:

  • Open your business app and tap “Join OPAY” from the menu options available in the app dashboard.
  • Tap “Card Inventory” and “Apply for Cards”.
  • Enter the quantity of cards you want. You can also leave optional notes in the designated space. The lowest amount of cards you can order is 10 and the highest quantity is 150 cards.
  • Input your delivery address, including your name, active phone number, house number, street, nearest bus stop, city, and state. Note: OPAY usually offer free delivery if aggregator ordered more than 20 cards.
  • Tap “Submit” and choose “Apply via your Aggregator” option for easy tracking and delivery.
  • So, it's important to have a good stand with you aggregator before you requested for the bulk cards. Your aggregator is the person who guided through the process of acquiring your OPAY POS machine. The person's number will be on your dashboard.
  • After choosing your aggregator, tap “Confirm”.
  • You'll be reviewed with your card request including amount per card and total amount per the quantity. As of 2026, OPAY charge N100 per card and if you requested for 100 cards, that means you'll be paying N10,000. You can sell these card for as high as N1,000 to OPay customers. OPAY also usually gives 50% discount on Cards not less than 50 in quantity.
  • Tap “Pay Now” and the amount will be charged from your balance.
  • Once the payment is successful, contact your aggregator for him or her to approve your order. Once the order is approved, you can go meet her/him to collect the card, or tell him/her to deliver it to you depending on your agreement.

Important Notice: you will not be able to file for refund if your card application is approved by your aggregator.

How to Activate OPAY Cards for Customers

Assigning the Card

Follow these steps to assign a card to a customer;

  • Login to your OPAY business app or your smartPOS terminal.
  • Tap “Join OPAY” on the homepage.
  • Tap “Apply for an OPAY Instant Card for Customer”.
  • Enter the customer's OPAY number and tap “Send Code”. An OTP verification code will be sent to the customer's number.
  • Retrieve the code from the customer, input it to the designated box provided for it, and tap “Next”.
  • Take a clear passport-like photo of the customer and verify the customer's means of identification either through BVN, NIN, or any means of identification linked to their OPAY.
  • Once the verification is complete, fill in the customer personal information including the customer date of birth (DoB), gender, and full legal names, as submitted on their OPAY account. Tap “Confirm” to continue.
  • Once the verification is complete, you will now need to assign the card to the customer's OPAY. To do that, scan the bar code on the front of the card's envelope or manually enter the barcode 13-digit numbers to assign the card.

The first process is “assigning the card” processes. Once that's complete, you will now be required to activate the OPAY card. The card can be activated via the OPAY app and using USSD code.

Activating the Card

As a card sale agent, you can activate OPAY debit card for customers in two different ways: via the customer's OPAY app or USSD banking.

Activation via App

  • Tell the customer to login to their OPAY account. However, it's important to note that the user must be in tier 2/3 for card features to work on their account.
  • The customer should tap “Card” tab at the buttom of their app's homepage.
  • The customer should click “Activate Card”.
  • The customer should enter the last 4-digits of the card number and select “Confirm”. The first digit numbers of the card will be visible on the page because he card has already been assigned to the account.

Activation via USSD code

  • The customer should dial *995*0312# on their OPAY registered phone number.
  • The customer should enter the last 4-digits of the card numbers.

Once the card is activated, the customer will receive a congratulations message saying, “Congratulations, you have successfully activated the OPAY Instant Debit Card!”. However, it's important to note that these activation methods are also the same if customers requested their OPAY debit card directly from their OPAY accounts.
