Have you ever been in a situation where your phone got stolen and your ATM card was in the back of the phone's pouch? Yes, this kind of situation is when you will realise that your bank account needs to be blocked from another phone.
Blocking a GTBank account from another phone can be done through USSD banking. You will need to provide the phone number linked to the GTB account and the account's USSD banking PIN to place a Post No Debit (PND) to restrict all debit transactions on the bank account and its ATM card.
To block your GTBank account and ATM card from another phone, dial *737*51*74# on another person's phone. It's not necessary that the person must be a GTB account holder, and this works on all major network providers in Nigeria, including MTN, Airtel, Glo, and T2.
After dialling the USSD code, follow the on-screen prompts. The prompts will guide you to provide your 10-digit GTB account number, the phone number linked to the account, and your 4-digit 737 USSD PIN to authorise the lock. Once the actions become successful, all debit transactions and transfers on both the account and ATM card will be restricted.
Blocking GTBank ATM Card
However, it's important to know that you can place a PND on your ATM card without affecting the bank account itself. This means all debit transactions on the card will be restricted, but you can use the bank account for transfers and other debit transactions. This is mostly useful when only your ATM card is stolen or misplaced.
Blocking your GTBank ATM card can be done via your own phone through the GTBank mobile app, a USSD code, or by contacting the GTConnect Customer Centre. To block your ATM card separately via USSD code, dial *737*51*10# on your GTB-linked phone number. Go to the “Card” section in the GTWorld app to block your ATM or contact GTConnect via +234-1-4480000, 0700-482666328, 08029002900, or 08039003900 to speak to customer care services.
To unblock your bank account if you block it from another person's phone, you will need to contact the bank via email, call or visit a branch. But if you intentionally block your ATM card, you can simply unlock it via the GTWorld mobile banking app. You can use the GTConnect numbers listed above to get in touch with a customer representative via call.
