How to stop the iPhone side button from accidentally ending your calls

iPhone side button

Your iPhone's side button can end ongoing calls when pressed. This setting is part of iOS settings that are default and sometimes, it accidentally hangs calls in the middle of conversations. However, Apple has built a turn off option in iOS 16. Instead of it to disconnect your call, it'll immediately lock your screen when pressed.

The side button functionality option is now available under “Accessibility” for iPhones running on iOS 16 or later. You can stop it from accidentally ending your calls by disabling the feature simply by following these steps:

  • Open your iPhone settings and go-to “Accessibility.”
  • Select “Touch.”
  • Turn “ON” the toggle that says “Prevent Lock to End Call.”

Here's what happens after you've enabled “Prevent Lock to End Call:”

  • The side button will lock your screen while the call continues in the background.
  • Pressing the button twice will no longer decline incoming calls.
  • Pressing the button once will silence incoming calls.

However, it's important to note that the change only alters the side button's behavior—it doesn't affect anything else. You can still end calls the usual ways you used to: by tapping the “End Call” button on the screen, using compatible wired or wireless headphones, Bluetooth accessories, or any other supported call control.
