The Nigerian government, under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, built GovGuide Nigeria—an AI-powered platform that gives Nigerians simplified and seamless access to government information and public services across the country. In other words, it's an AI smart chatbot system that will help you get government information easily and quickly.
Launched under the supervision of the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy in May 2026, GovGuide Nigeria was introduced in four languages: English, Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba. In addition to that, you will be able to access more than 35 federal ministries' and 60 government agencies' information.
Today, we launched #GovGuideNigeria, an AI-powered platform designed to make access to government information simpler, faster, and more inclusive for every Nigerian. Available via WhatsApp and web in English, Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba,

The platform can be accessed through WhatsApp and the web. According to the ministry's minister, Bosun Tijani, providing the platform through the messaging app and the overall country's dialects will ensure that all citizens across different linguistic backgrounds get access to the platform, helping reduce language barriers and making the government work better for all.
The government's effort shows the use of modern technology to help ordinary Nigerians, especially those in villages, those who never went to school much, and people who find it hard to read English. “This initiative reflects our commitment to ensuring that technology and AI work for the people, especially underserved and low-literacy communities across the country,” Bosun Tijani cited on his X handle.
How to use GovGuide Nigeria Chatbot
To start using the platform, visit “https://govguide.ng” and click on “Get Started For Free” to start chatting with the chatbot. You can also chat with the chatbot directly through your WhatsApp app. If you're using the web version, it's important to note that it can be used on any web browser of your choice.
You can ask the chatbot a series of questions, including 'How do I apply for a Nigerian passport?' What are the requirements for NIN registration? How can I renew my driver's licence? Where do I pay for vehicle registration? How do I obtain a police clearance certificate? Or what is the process for birth certificate registration?
If you want to select your preferred language, just click on the language drop-down button at the top of the page to see the list of available languages the chatbot can respond with. See it as shown in the image above.
The launch of Nigeria’s first Multilingual Large Language Model (LLM), called N-ATLAS,
In 2024, Nigerian Atlas for Languages & AI at Scale (N-ATLAS)—a multilingual and multimodal AI language model—was developed to map, digitise, and support local languages like Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, and Nigerian-accented English. It's Nigeria’s first Multilingual Large Language Model (LLM) that is made ready for building datasets that power inclusive AI solutions like GovGuideNigeria.
N-ATLAS was developed in partnership with the National Centre for AI and Robotics (NCAIR), a global tech company; DataDotOrg, a Nigerian AI company; Awarritech; and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
However, the minister has acknowledged that the GovGuideNigeria platform was developed in partnership with NCAIR, Meta, and Publica. This development comes amid the government's plans to co-create an AI governance framework with innovators, startups, and industry stakeholders to promote the responsible and inclusive advancement of the technology.
How Multilingual Large Language Model (LLM) Works
LLM products like N-ATLAS work in the sense that the developers will train an AI system powering chatbots on massive amounts of text and speech data collected from multiple languages. This scope will allow the model to understand, process, translate, generate, and respond in different languages within a single system.
However, it's important to note that the goal goes beyond simple translation in the case of N-ATLAS. N-ATLAS is trained to understand Nigeria’s linguistic diversity, cultural context, local expressions, accents, slang, and communication patterns across languages such as Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, Nigerian Pidgin, and English.
This allows 90% of Nigerians to interact—in their native language—with any AI chatbot using the N-ATLAS system. The chatbot will also be able to receive contextually accurate and culturally relevant responses.
Governments can use them for citizen-support platforms that explain policies in local languages, just like the way Nigeria's federal government is developing the system into GovGuide Nigeria to give users access to public services and information.
In fact, it's not only government that can use the system. Even banks and fintech companies can deploy them into customer support for the purpose of communicating naturally with account holders regardless of literacy level or preferred language.
