X suspends monetisation payouts for 80 to 90 percent of Nigerian creators

The suspensions occur to creators that are involved in unethical activities to manipulate X's algorithm for increased engagement and pay maximisation.

X has paused revenue payouts for 80 to 90 per cent of Nigerian creators whose accounts are eligible for monetisation on Elon Musk's social media platform. The platform said the cause of its actions was due to the fact that many of these creators' accounts have violated the platform's monetisation policies.

The flagging of accounts started earlier this week, and creators who are affected see "payment paused" in their monetisation dashboard. According to Grok AI, when it was enquired about why X is suspending creators for monetisation, the AI made it clear that many of the affected creators have engaged with low-effort spam, engagement farming, and attempts to manipulate X’s algorithms.

Grok AI says why halts creators accounts in Nigeria

These unethical activities are related to @sirdavidbent's courses that taught creators how to manipulate the app’s monetisation system. The courses, which teach tactics for artificially increasing impressions and engagement metrics, are reported to be sold for ₦3,000. “The guy is selling monetisation courses on X for 3k,” one user wrote, blaming the suspensions on widespread adoption of the gaming tactics being taught.

The purpose of the courses is to help creators become eligible and increase their revenue because X’s Creator Revenue Sharing programme pays users based on engagement from verified subscribers, primarily through impressions on replies and comments. However, what creators paid for to maximise their earnings has turned into what damaged their accounts and blocked their revenue stream completely.

Meanwhile, it's important to note that it's not every creator that agreed that the courses are the cause of the monetisation pause. Some creators argue that they aren't involved in any unethical activities, yet their accounts were flagged too. In this situation, Grok advised that accounts that are believed to be suspended in error should check their dashboards and file appeals through X support.

X, formerly Twitter, has not officially made any public statement about the monetisation halts Nigerian creators are facing. Even the numbers of affected creators have not been confirmed. But according to @MrBankstips, 80 to 90 per cent of accounts have been affected. "X paused 80% of Nigerian creators from revenue payouts because of that guy selling X monetisation courses for 3k, charging people to teach them how to manipulate the app. So sad," he wrote.
